Club History

Kamiko Judo Clubs are 3 family run clubs and were established at Althorne, in February 2001 and evolved from its parent club Beauchamps Akitas at Wickford which was run by my father, Peter Hutchins.

As we had just moved house to a new area we decided to open a club mainly to meet local people whilst doing something we enjoy. With the help from my dad, a very understanding wife, Debbie, our two sons, Sam and Billy-Ray, and our brand new baby girl, Lana, we opened our first ever club at St Andrews Church Hall in Althorne. We obviously had no idea as to how many people would turn up being that it was such a small village, and was extremely happy to have 10 students turn up, giving us an excellent start.

After 18 months, of running Althorne, we were approached by Jackie, who was at the time running a club at Burnham. She asked if we would like to take the club as she was going off to university, and in memory of her father who had founded the club, she did not want to close it. We agreed, and in the last 3 years, we have changed dojos, from Dengie Sports Centre, to Burnham Ramblers Football Club, and have a very successful club.

Last September 2004, we opened our 3rd club in Southminster, at the Memorial Hall, as availability of space was running low at the other clubs. This club is gradually building into a great club too.

We must give great thanks to all of the children at the clubs, and their very, very loyal parents, who have made it possible to build such a brilliant family of judoki from all over the Dengie, which we believe will become a great force in judo in the years to come.
